“Technology and college generation”
According to the article “Technology and college generation” adapted from Courthey Rubing, students become careless about their college email account, but they spent much more time on social networking nowadays. Dr. May suggests that some students do not even know that they have a college email account. Royal Junco’s experiment shows that how little time students spent on their college accounts. However, they spent a tremendous amount of time in social media such as Facebook, texting, and twitter. They prefer to communicate with the professor with that kind of social media. In contrast, the professor feels uncomfortable with this type of texting. Students should check their email regularly, so they will not miss any assignment.
One of the most valuable points the author makes is student finds more interest in social media than the email. The majority of students like to hang out with their friends on social networks. Social media becoming more popular present day. Students often use it for formal conversation, not for the important thing. Most of the students do not check their college email account. However, email is an important way to connect with their college or university.
There is a different view between teacher and student about the social media and email. Students always prefer to use social media as soon as they get internet access. Sometimes they think they will check their college account in a few minutes and they forget. This kind of careless mind makes them miss the assignment. One day, I was talking to my friend at like 1am who goes to college like me. Meanwhile, he says that he had to go because he just sees that his professor sent a new assignment in the email. I asked him why you did not check his email when he came back from college. He says that he thought he will check that latter on and then he got busy chatting with friends.
This article reminds me of a TV news that I saw that showed student and teacher prospective about homework put in whether social media or email. The reporter took the students and teacher opinion about it. The summary of that program was that student says we live in a new era where email is kind of old fashioned these days. We complete our assignment in Facebook at the same time we hang out with our friends. The teacher can use our Facebook to send homework or they can open up a group account to do the homework on Facebook. However, teacher has different views about it. Teacher says Facebook is a personal thing. We want to keep our personal space. Moreover, students cannot do the assignment while they are hanging out, so that the best way stay away from social networks while they are doing your assignment. In addition to concentrating students should need to focus on one thing at a time. If students can check their Facebook two or three times per hours why they cannot check their homework in the email.
This is controversial issue between student and teacher. Student wants to do everything in social media, but the teacher has opposite views. All things considered, email is the way to connect with student in college level. As a responsible student, he or she should check his college email three times per day morning, evening, and at night before they go to sleep
